A chance discovery of an interesting tombstone in the Benton Avenue Cemetery in Helena, Montana started collaboration between students at Concordia International School Shanghai and the Montana Historical Society. Through the investigation of the double murder from Montana Territory in 1870, students analyzed the varying perspectives of the event, investigated Montana’s vigilante efforts, and reconstructed a more complete picture of the territory’s sizable Chinese community as it sought to carve out an existence within the Frontier communities of the American West.
